Introduction:
Atalanta is the fourth book in the Early Myths collection, a series of children's picture books about Greek myth. Each book tells the tale of a character from mythology and brings the story to life through the inspiration from art and literature. Summary:
Atalanta is the story of a young girl who does not want to be married off to a local prince, and instead heads off into the forest to live with the animals. She learns to hunt, run, and take on all that nature throws at her, becoming one of the greatest of the heroes. She overturns expectations of her gender and takes on the strongest of the men- and wins! When she does eventually agree to find a partner she challenges the other heroes to be her equal and meets a person who respects her skills and ability.
